Online Casino Northwest Territories: Laws, Offshore Sites and Policy

An online casino Northwest Territories residents can join is, for now, an offshore site: the territory has no government-run online casino, no private licensing market and no land-based casino. Gambling there runs through charitable bingo, raffles, Nevada tickets, video lottery terminals and Western Canada Lottery products, while MLAs and the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs study online regulation. For licensed options elsewhere in Canada, see our online casinos for Canadian players.

Below we set out the law, the local gambling scene, the policy debate in Yellowknife, how offshore sites work for NWT players, payments, taxes and the support available, with our own rough estimate of the likely value of a regulated market.

Topic Northwest Territories
Territorial online casino None
Private iGaming licences None
Land-based casinos None; charity casino events only
Regulator Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA)
Main laws Lotteries Act and Lotteries Regulations; Western Canada Lottery Act
Legal gambling age 19
Local gambling Bingo, raffles, Nevada tickets, VLTs, lottery

Is there a licensed online casino in the Northwest Territories?

No. GambleOnline says the territory has not launched a regulated territorial online casino or a private licensing market, and Bojoko confirms there is no government-run casino site. Any online casino Northwest Territories players use today is licensed somewhere else, such as Malta, Kahnawake or Curaçao.

There is no NWT equivalent of PlayNow, PlayAlberta, OLG.ca or Atlantic Lottery’s online casino, GambleOnline notes.

Offshore sites accept NWT players but sit outside territorial oversight.

That leaves players without a local regulator to complain to.

The territory is studying the issue, but nothing has launched.

Who regulates gambling in the Northwest Territories?

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs, known as MACA. Casino.ca and Bojoko say it oversees charity bingos, raffles and video lottery terminals. MACA would also lead any future rules for an online casino Northwest Territories players can one day join legally at home.

Snow-covered Old Town Yellowknife at sunrise
Yellowknife holds about half of the territory’s just over 40,000 residents.

The communities minister answers for gambling policy in the Legislative Assembly.

MACA has started background work on online gambling, according to Hansard records.

Local licences for bingo and raffles come through the territorial system.

Western Canada Lottery products are handled under a separate act.

Which laws govern gambling in the NWT?

The Lotteries Act and Lotteries Regulations cover charitable and community gaming, and the Western Canada Lottery Act covers lottery products, GambleOnline says. Neither allows an online casino Northwest Territories residents can open as a territorial service.

Cabin Radio reports the Lotteries Act is just over a page long.

It was last amended eight years ago, Cabin Radio says.

The longer regulations were last updated about fifteen years ago.

Federal law, through the Criminal Code, sets the outer limits for every province and territory.

What do the Lotteries Regulations allow?

Mostly community games. Cabin Radio says they cover bingos, Nevadas, raffles and sports draft lotteries, and let a group run a casino for up to three days once every six months, for a charitable or religious purpose. No rule covers an online casino Northwest Territories site.

By our sums, that caps a group at six casino days a year.

The events must serve a charitable or religious object.

Private, permanent casinos are not allowed.

Online casino gaming is not covered at all.

Are there land-based casinos in the NWT?

No. Casino.ca says there are no land-based casinos in the territory and that a businessman’s plan for a casino in Yellowknife more than a decade ago never went ahead. Without a local casino floor, an online casino Northwest Territories players reach offshore is the main way to play casino games.

Charity casino events run only for short periods.

Casino.ca notes the drive from Yellowknife to Edmonton takes about 17 hours.

Flights south add cost and planning.

Gambling.ca says bingo is the main gambling activity in the territory.

What is the legal gambling age in the NWT?

19. Casino.ca says the age is 19 whether you buy lottery tickets or log on to an online casino, and LiveScore confirms 19 applies in every province and territory except Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Any online casino Northwest Territories players join will also ask for proof of age.

Offshore sites set their own minimum age, often 18.

Territorial law still sets 19 for local gambling.

Identity checks before withdrawal confirm age.

Underage play can void winnings under casino terms.

Is online gambling legal in the NWT?

It sits in a grey area. The territory does not license online casinos, and GambleOnline notes MACA has said current gaming laws do not allow non-charitable or online gaming. Offshore sites accept players anyway, so an online casino Northwest Territories residents use operates outside territorial law.

Prosecutions of individual players are not reported in our sources.

The legal risk sits mainly with operators.

Players lose the protection a local licence would give.

Choose sites with recognised licences if you play.

What gambling is available locally?

Charity bingo, raffles, Nevada tickets, video lottery terminals and Western Canada Lottery products. Gambling.ca adds that bingo halls are the most popular option. Those games are the legal backdrop to any online casino Northwest Territories players consider.

Gambling.ca says there is no racetrack in the territory.

Sports betting comes through lottery channels.

Charity casino events are capped at three days per six months.

Community fundraisers keep these games local.

Why is bingo so popular in the North?

MLA Kieron Testart opened a statement to the Legislative Assembly with “if there’s one thing northerners love, it’s a good bingo”, Cabin Radio reports. Bingo raises money for communities and is a social event. It remains bigger than any online casino Northwest Territories debate.

Testart called gaming a “cornerstone of our northern culture”.

He listed bingo, hand games, chase the ace and 50-50 draws.

Bingo proceeds often fund local groups.

Reports note lottery funding shortfalls are affecting local bingos.

What are Nevada tickets?

Pull-tab tickets sold for charity, which the Lotteries Regulations cover alongside bingo and raffles, according to Cabin Radio. They give an instant result when opened. They remain a rare legal instant game until an online casino Northwest Territories option exists.

Gambling.ca lists Nevada tickets among the territory’s charitable games.

Proceeds go to the licensed charity.

Tickets are sold in person.

Prize structures are set by the ticket deal.

What are chase the ace and 50-50 draws?

Community lotteries Testart named in his statement. In a 50-50, half the pot goes to the winner and half to the cause; chase the ace is a weekly draw that grows until the ace of spades is found. Both are popular fundraisers beside the online casino Northwest Territories residents can reach.

Both need a local licence.

Prizes grow with ticket sales.

They keep money circulating in the community.

Online versions are not offered by the territory.

Are there video lottery terminals in the NWT?

Yes. Casino.ca and Bojoko say MACA regulates video lottery terminals along with bingo and raffles, and Gambling.ca confirms you can play them. VLTs are the nearest thing to slots in the territory, apart from an online casino Northwest Territories players find offshore.

VLTs sit in licensed venues.

Testart has argued that more VLTs would raise revenue.

VLT games are regulated locally, unlike offshore slots.

Proceeds support public programmes.

Can you bet on sports legally in the NWT?

Yes, through lottery channels. Bojoko says the only official online gambling option is Sports Select, which covers sports betting only. The federal Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act allowed single-event betting, Cabin Radio notes, but it did not create an online casino Northwest Territories residents can use.

GambleOnline says the federal change did not create an NWT online casino market.

Lottery sports products work alongside ticket games.

Offshore sportsbooks are outside territorial rules.

Age 19 applies to sports betting too.

What is the Western Canada Lottery’s role?

The NWT takes part in Western Canada Lottery products under the Western Canada Lottery Act, GambleOnline says, making lottery tickets the main official gambling channel. It does not run an online casino Northwest Territories players can join.

Lottery tickets are sold through local retailers.

Sports betting products run through the lottery system.

Revenue supports territorial programmes.

Online casino games are not part of the offer.

What is the population of the NWT?

Just over 40,000, according to Gambling.ca, with Yellowknife the capital. Casino.ca notes Yellowknife is a town of about 20,000. A small population is one reason the territory never built a casino, and it shapes any online casino Northwest Territories plan.

Communities include Fort Simpson, Tuktoyaktuk and Aklavik.

Distances between communities are large.

Small markets struggle to support a land casino.

Online platforms reach remote communities more easily.

What did MLAs hear about regulating online gambling?

Cabin Radio reports consultant Amee Barber, formerly of GeoComply, told a committee of MLAs that legislation can bring tax revenue, curb illegal gambling and even boost tourism. She warned that without regulation, players have “no legal recourse”. Her briefing put the online casino Northwest Territories question on the agenda.

She said greater player protection and harm reduction are core to a regulated system.

She suggested the territory work with Ontario.

Interactive casinos, sports betting and lotteries all count as interactive gaming.

She noted online gambling is about a quarter-century old.

What did MLA Kieron Testart propose?

Changes to the Lotteries Act that would allow land-based casinos and more gaming, Cabin Radio reports. He called casinos, VLTs and online betting “billion-dollar opportunities” and urged working with Indigenous governments. He also backs a regulated online casino Northwest Territories model.

He asked colleagues to imagine a lakeside hotel and resort drawing tourists.

He said regulated platforms would protect consumers and fund public services.

He brought a GeoComply representative to meet the communities minister.

He represents Range Lake in Yellowknife.

What did the communities minister say?

Minister Vince McKay agreed the Lotteries Act needs a refresh and said he would look at it, Cabin Radio reports, but cautioned that changes require consultation with Indigenous governments and the Council of Leaders. Any online casino Northwest Territories law would go through that process.

He did not guarantee the topic would reach the next Council of Leaders agenda.

MACA has done background work on online gambling, Hansard shows.

Consultation adds time to any change.

Indigenous governments are partners in territorial decisions.

Is the NWT preparing online gambling laws?

It is at an early stage. GambleOnline says the government budgeted this year for specialist help on online gambling legislation, while MACA still states current laws do not allow online gaming. There is no licensing model or launch date for an online casino Northwest Territories players can use.

MLAs raised online gambling in the Legislative Assembly over the past two years.

A public iGaming briefing was held for committee members.

MACA began research and talks with other agencies.

Real change needs legislation, a regulator and consumer rules.

What would a regulated NWT market look like?

GambleOnline says the territory would have to choose a lottery-run, government-managed, privately licensed or mixed model, then write laws, build a regulator and set consumer rules. Barber pointed to Ontario’s model. Each option would shape the first legal online casino Northwest Territories players can join.

A lottery-run model would mirror PlayNow or PlayAlberta’s early years.

A private model would follow Ontario and, now, Alberta.

A mixed model would pair a public site with licensed operators.

Each choice affects revenue, protection and game choice.

How does Ontario’s model work?

iGaming Ontario works with the provincial government and the AGCO to oversee private online operators, Cabin Radio reports. Barber told MLAs Ontario had 51 licensed operators running 83 websites. That is the model often cited for a future online casino Northwest Territories market.

Ontario was the first province to open a regulated private market.

Operators register with the AGCO and sign agreements with iGaming Ontario.

Players in Ontario must be 19 or older.

Our online slots in Ontario page covers that market.

How big is Ontario’s market by comparison?

Barber told MLAs Ontario’s iGaming market generated 738 million in revenue in a single July-to-September quarter, up 35% on a year earlier, Cabin Radio reports. She also cited a 15% rise in gaming-related tourism. Those figures frame expectations for an online casino Northwest Territories market.

Ontario’s population dwarfs the NWT’s.

Barber said the NWT has a far smaller population but potential for high tax revenue.

Revenue figures are gross gaming revenue, not profit.

Growth rates can slow as markets mature.

What would a regulated NWT market be worth?

Ontario’s 738 million quarter across about 14.5 million people works out to about 51 per person per quarter. Applied to just over 40,000 NWT residents, that suggests about 2 million a quarter, or 8 million a year, by our sums. An online casino Northwest Territories market would be small in absolute terms.

Step Figure
Ontario quarterly iGaming revenue (Barber) 738 million
Ontario population used in Greentube coverage 14.5 million
Revenue per person per quarter About 51
NWT population (Gambling.ca) Just over 40,000
Scaled NWT revenue per year About 8 million

This is simple scaling, not a forecast; spending habits differ between regions.

Tax revenue would be a share of that figure.

Can the NWT allow tourists but restrict locals?

Barber said yes, using geolocation to create inclusion and exclusion zones and to restrict residents while serving visitors, citing Singapore’s limits on residents. That is one of the more unusual ideas for an online casino Northwest Territories framework.

Geolocation tools confirm where a player is physically located.

GeoComply is one such provider, Cabin Radio notes.

Zones would let regulators exclude specific communities.

Any such policy would need consultation first.

Why does Indigenous consultation matter?

Minister McKay said changes to the Lotteries Act require consultation with Indigenous governments and the Council of Leaders. Testart also urged working with Indigenous governments to share benefits. Any online casino Northwest Territories plan would need that support.

The Council of Leaders brings territorial and Indigenous governments together.

Community control over gambling is a sensitive issue.

Revenue sharing would be part of any talks.

Consultation can shape where and how online play is allowed.

What are the risks of more gambling?

Cabin Radio points to a Statistics Canada paper finding that people who take part in a wide range of gambling face higher risk of problem gambling. About 2% of past-year gamblers were at moderate-to-severe risk. Those risks weigh on any online casino Northwest Territories decision.

The study was run before the pandemic and before single-event sports betting.

It did not include data from the territories.

Men, lower-income households and people reporting poor mental health were at higher risk.

Regulated markets add tools such as deposit limits and self-exclusion.

Do Indigenous Canadians gamble more often?

The Statistics Canada study cited by Cabin Radio found that 72.4% of Indigenous people in southern Canada reported gambling in the past year, against 64.2% of non-Indigenous people. Territorial data was not included. Any online casino Northwest Territories policy would need northern evidence.

The survey covered the year before the paper was published.

Gambling rates are not the same as problem rates.

Most people who gamble do not show problem gambling tendencies, the study found.

Local research would fill the territorial gap.

What protections are missing at offshore casinos?

A local regulator, a local complaints route and province-wide self-exclusion. Barber said players in unregulated markets have no legal recourse, and Ontario’s self-exclusion removes a player from every operator at once. Those gaps define the risk of an offshore online casino Northwest Territories players join.

Offshore licences come with their own complaint processes.

Those processes can be slow and distant.

Responsible gambling tools vary by site.

Deposit limits are usually available but not mandatory.

Which offshore licences do NWT players see?

Bojoko’s recommended sites for NWT players hold licences from the Malta Gaming Authority, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and Curaçao. Each offers a different level of oversight. Checking the licence is the first step with any online casino Northwest Territories residents consider.

Bojoko calls the MGA one of the most trusted licences worldwide.

It calls the KGC one of the oldest licences in the industry.

Curaçao licences are common at crypto-friendly sites.

The licence number appears in the site footer.

Why does the Kahnawake licence matter to NWT players?

A regulator based in Kahnawake, a Mohawk territory near Montreal, that licenses online gambling operators. Bojoko says it is one of the oldest licences in the industry and a trusted option for Canadian players. A KGC licence is common on an online casino Northwest Territories players find.

The KGC is based in Canada but outside provincial licensing.

Its licences cover operators serving players across the world.

Its status differs from a provincial regulator’s.

Check the licence on the KGC’s own register.

How do you check a casino’s licence?

Scroll to the site footer, note the licence number and look it up on the regulator’s own register. A genuine licence names the operating company and its address. That simple check filters the online casino Northwest Territories players are wise to avoid.

Fake licence badges link nowhere or to the wrong page.

The company name in the terms must match the licence.

Restricted-country lists show where the site cannot accept players.

GambleOnline checks who handles payments as well as the licence.

What does GambleOnline check before recommending a site?

Where the casino is licensed, who operates it, which company handles payments and whether the terms list restricted jurisdictions. It also reviews account security, age rules, verification, anti-fraud terms and responsible gambling information. Those checks suit any online casino Northwest Territories players compare.

Clear withdrawal rules count for more than game count.

Good operators make their company details easy to find.

Mobile browser play carries extra weight in the North, it says.

A big lobby cannot make up for unclear terms.

Which payment methods work from the NWT?

Interac, debit and credit cards, bank transfers, prepaid vouchers and crypto, GambleOnline says, with Interac usually the most useful for Canadians. Check that a method works for withdrawals as well as deposits at any online casino Northwest Territories players use.

Interac connects directly to a Canadian bank account.

Certain banks decline gambling transactions on cards.

Bank transfers suit larger withdrawals but are slower.

Prepaid vouchers usually work for deposits only.

Is Interac available at offshore casinos?

Often, but not always for withdrawals. GambleOnline advises checking whether Interac covers both deposits and withdrawals before you sign up. A cashier that only takes Interac deposits can leave an online casino Northwest Territories player waiting on a slower payout route.

Interac is familiar across Canada.

Withdrawal limits can differ from deposit limits.

Verification usually comes before the first withdrawal.

Bank processing times add to casino processing times.

Do cards work for gambling deposits?

Sometimes. GambleOnline notes that banks may decline gambling transactions or treat them differently, and cards can be less reliable for withdrawals at offshore casinos. Confirm payout options before depositing at an online casino Northwest Territories residents use.

Certain card issuers code gambling as a cash advance.

Debit cards avoid credit interest.

Refund routes to cards are not guaranteed.

Keep records of every transaction.

What about crypto casinos?

GambleOnline says crypto offers fast transfers and broad coin choice but adds network fees, wallet-address risk, price swings and, often, identity checks before withdrawal. Crypto-only sites are common among offshore options for an online casino Northwest Territories players find.

Bojoko describes one Curaçao site as one of the first crypto-friendly casinos.

Coin values can change between deposit and withdrawal.

Mistyped wallet addresses cannot be reversed.

Crypto does not remove licensing questions.

What does registration usually require?

Name, date of birth, address and contact details, followed by identity documents before withdrawal. GambleOnline highlights KYC requirements, anti-fraud terms and duplicate-account rules. Expect that process at any online casino Northwest Territories players join.

Upload a photo ID and proof of address.

Bojoko praises sites where document upload is quick.

Mismatched details delay payouts.

One account per person is the usual rule.

How fast are payouts to the NWT?

It depends on the site and method. E-wallets and crypto are usually quickest, Interac is fast once verified, and bank transfers are slowest, according to the payment guides we checked. First withdrawals from any online casino Northwest Territories players use take longest because of identity checks.

Pending periods at the casino add time.

Weekends can slow bank transfers.

Large wins can trigger extra checks.

Keep documents ready to avoid delays.

Which games do offshore sites offer?

Slots, live dealer tables, table games, instant and crash games, and tournaments, GambleOnline says, with slots the main category because they work well on mobile. Game libraries at an online casino Northwest Territories players join often run into the thousands.

Bojoko lists sites with more than 5,000 games.

Live dealer games stream from studios.

Crash games have fast rounds that make tracking spending harder.

Our free slots in Canada page lets you try slots free.

Are there live dealer games for NWT players?

Only offshore. GambleOnline notes there is no territorial live dealer platform, so live blackjack, roulette, baccarat and game shows come from offshore sites. Live tables are a big draw at any online casino Northwest Territories players use.

Live games need a steady internet connection.

Table limits vary by game and site.

Game shows mix wheels and bonus rounds.

Live games are not available through lottery channels.

Is mobile play important in the NWT?

Yes. GambleOnline gives mobile browser play extra weight for the territory, and casino.ca reports growing use of mobile casinos there. A site that works smoothly in a browser can be more practical than an app at an online casino Northwest Territories players join.

Browser play avoids app-store restrictions.

Data use can matter on remote networks.

Live dealer streams use the most data.

Phone-first players in remote communities will find tips on our mobile casino gaming page.

Are casino winnings taxable in the NWT?

Not for most players. GambleOnline and casino.ca say recreational gambling wins are not taxed as income in Canada; professional gambling and interest earned on winnings can be. Keep records of large wins from any online casino Northwest Territories players use.

One-off lottery or casino wins are generally tax-free.

Business-like gambling can be taxed.

Interest on a win is taxable income.

Seek personal tax advice for unusual cases.

Which bonuses suit NWT players?

GambleOnline argues that reload bonuses and live-dealer cashback give better value than one-off welcome offers, because they reward repeat play on mobile and at live tables. Read the wagering rules at any online casino Northwest Territories players join before accepting a bonus.

Wagering requirements set the total you must bet before withdrawing.

Low or no wagering keeps bonuses simple.

Game restrictions can exclude table games.

Bonuses never change the house edge.

How do wagering requirements work?

A wagering requirement is the number of times you must stake a bonus before it turns into withdrawable cash. GameRules gives the example of 30x on a 100 bonus, which means 3,000 in bets. Check this first on any online casino Northwest Territories offer.

Slots usually count 100% toward wagering.

Table games often count 5% to 15%, GameRules says.

Time limits apply to most bonuses.

Maximum cashout caps can limit bonus wins.

What red flags mark an unsafe offshore casino?

No visible licence, no named operating company, vague withdrawal rules, unrealistic bonus promises and slow or missing support. GambleOnline says a large lobby cannot make up for unclear operator details. Avoid any online casino Northwest Territories players cannot verify.

Copied or broken licence badges are a warning.

Repeated document requests can signal stalling.

Unclear restricted-country lists are another sign.

Search for player complaints before depositing.

How does the NWT compare with Yukon?

Both territories lack a licensed online casino and both rely on lottery and charitable gaming. Our Yukon page covers its similar setup. Players in either place use offshore sites, so the online casino Northwest Territories picture closely mirrors Yukon’s.

Both set the gambling age at 19.

Both are smaller markets than any province.

Policy debates have moved at different speeds.

Read our online casino Yukon page for that territory.

How does the NWT compare with Nunavut?

LiveScore says gambling in Nunavut centres on lottery products and regulated sports betting, with no major casino infrastructure and a dispersed population. That is close to the NWT setup. Neither offers a territorial online casino Northwest Territories or Nunavut residents can join.

Both territories have small, remote communities.

Both rely on lottery partnerships.

Offshore sites fill the online gap in both.

Nunavut’s own rules differ in detail.

How does the NWT compare with the provinces?

Every province now has a regulated online option: lottery sites such as PlayNow and Atlantic Lottery’s, Loto-Québec’s site, and private markets in Ontario and Alberta. The territories have none. That gap is the main reason the online casino Northwest Territories question keeps coming up.

Jurisdiction Online casino model
Ontario Private operators licensed through the AGCO and iGaming Ontario
Alberta Private market opened this year, plus PlayAlberta
British Columbia PlayNow, run by the provincial lottery
Atlantic provinces Atlantic Lottery’s online casino
Northwest Territories None; offshore sites only

Provincial sites keep revenue at home.

Private markets add choice and competition.

What happened in Alberta?

Alberta’s private iGaming market opened on July 13 this year, Lineups reports, after a delay Cabin Radio noted while the province gathered more input. Alberta followed Ontario’s approach. Its launch gives the NWT a nearby example for any online casino Northwest Territories model.

The AGLC licenses operators in Alberta.

The Alberta iGaming Corporation manages commercial agreements.

Alberta’s gambling age is 18.

Our online casino Alberta page covers the new market.

Can NWT residents play on provincial sites?

Generally no. Provincial platforms such as PlayNow, PlayAlberta and OLG.ca use geolocation to confirm players are inside that province. An NWT resident would have to be physically there, so they are not a practical online casino Northwest Territories option from home.

Visitors can play while physically in the province, subject to that site’s rules.

Accounts usually need a local address.

Geolocation checks run on every session.

Using a VPN breaks site terms.

What is geolocation and why does it matter?

Technology that confirms where a player is physically located before allowing a bet. Barber, formerly of GeoComply, told MLAs it can enforce inclusion and exclusion zones. Geolocation would be central to any regulated online casino Northwest Territories system.

Regulated sites check location on every session.

Offshore sites rarely use strict geolocation.

Zones would protect specific communities.

Location checks also stop out-of-territory play.

What self-exclusion options exist?

Offshore sites offer their own self-exclusion, but only for that site. Barber told MLAs Ontario requires a programme where excluding from one platform removes you from every operator. No such system covers an online casino Northwest Territories players reach offshore.

Exclude yourself from each site you use.

Ask support to close accounts permanently.

Blocking software can add another barrier.

Talk to the NWT Helpline about other options.

Where can NWT players get help?

The NWT Helpline, at 1-800-661-0844, offers support and advice, casino.ca says. Help is free and confidential. Call it if play at any online casino Northwest Territories residents use stops being fun.

Community counsellors can also help.

Family members can call for advice too.

Deposit limits and time-outs add practical controls.

Our gambling limits online page explains each tool.

Which limits help offshore players?

Deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders and time-outs, set in your account before you play. GambleOnline singles out session and deposit limits for fast games such as crash titles. Use them at any online casino Northwest Territories players join.

Set limits on the day you open an account.

Lower limits take effect at once; higher ones usually wait.

Keep a separate budget for play.

Track time as well as money.

Why do northerners play online at all?

Distance and weather. Casino.ca points to the lack of land casinos, the 17-hour drive to Edmonton and long, dark winters. Online sites offer games at any hour from any community. That convenience drives demand for an online casino Northwest Territories players can access.

Players in Fort Simpson or Tuktoyaktuk have the same access as Yellowknife.

Online sites also offer free play modes.

Convenience can also make overplay easier.

Set limits before long winter sessions.

Does online gambling hurt local bingo?

Reports on Legislative Assembly debates point to shortfalls in lottery funding linked to changes in how people spend their money, including impacts on local bingos. Money spent offshore at an online casino Northwest Territories players use does not support local causes.

Bingo proceeds fund community groups.

Offshore operators pay no territorial taxes.

A regulated market would redirect part of that revenue home, supporters argue.

Critics worry about more gambling overall.

How do you choose a site if you play offshore?

Check the licence, the operating company, the withdrawal methods and the responsible gambling tools before depositing. Read the bonus terms and test support with a question. Those steps reduce the risk of any online casino Northwest Territories players join.

  1. Confirm the licence on the regulator’s register.
  2. Check that Interac or your method works for withdrawals.
  3. Read wagering rules and cashout caps.
  4. Set deposit and loss limits.
  5. Start with a small deposit and a small withdrawal.

Is it safe to play at offshore casinos?

It can be at well-licensed sites, but the protection is weaker than at a regulated Canadian site. Bojoko lists MGA- and Kahnawake-licensed options, yet none is overseen by the territory. Treat any online casino Northwest Territories players use with extra care.

Stick to recognised licences.

Avoid sites with unclear ownership.

Withdraw winnings regularly.

Keep copies of your account documents.

How can NWT players tell if casino games are fair?

At licensed sites, games use random number generators tested by independent labs, and regulators approve the versions on offer. Offshore oversight varies by licence. Check that an online casino Northwest Territories players join names its testing lab.

Look for testing-lab seals that link to certificates.

Game RTPs appear in each game’s rules.

Live games use real cards and wheels.

Independent lab testing is described on our casino random number generators page.

What can players do while laws are debated?

Use local lottery and charity games, and if you play offshore, pick well-licensed sites and set firm limits. Follow Legislative Assembly news for updates. Changes to the online casino Northwest Territories rules will take time.

Cabin Radio covers territorial politics closely.

Hansard records MLA statements and answers.

Any new law would go through consultation.

Watch MACA announcements for policy steps.

What would change for players under regulation?

Local licensing, a territorial complaints route, mandatory responsible gambling tools and revenue staying in the North. Barber cited deposit limits, analytics to spot problem play and cross-operator self-exclusion. Those would come with a regulated online casino Northwest Territories market.

Operators would pay territorial taxes.

Advertising rules would apply.

Game approvals would follow local standards.

Offshore sites would be blocked or pushed out.

How do lottery funds help the NWT?

Lottery and charitable gaming proceeds support community groups and public programmes. Testart argued gaming would enrich Indigenous and public governments. Supporters see a regulated online casino Northwest Territories market as a way to add to that funding.

Charity licences require proceeds to go to approved causes.

Bingo halls are a fundraising mainstay.

Funding shortfalls have been raised in the Assembly.

Any change would aim to protect these sources.

Which questions remain open?

Whether the territory will license private operators, run its own site or partner with a lottery; how revenue would be shared with Indigenous governments; and what protections would apply. Until those are settled, no online casino Northwest Territories residents can join will be licensed locally.

No launch timetable has been published.

No licensing model has been chosen.

No tax structure has been set.

Consultation has not been scheduled publicly.

How does Canada’s Criminal Code shape NWT gambling?

The federal Criminal Code decides when gambling is lawful and lets provinces and territories conduct and manage lottery schemes, LiveScore explains. Each jurisdiction then builds its own system. That is why any online casino Northwest Territories law has to come from Yellowknife, not Ottawa.

Amendments more than half a century ago first let governments run lottery schemes, according to LiveScore’s timeline. About four decades ago, Ottawa handed most of the remaining responsibility for gambling to the provinces, which went on to build lotteries, casinos and gaming corporations.

The territories followed with their own laws. In the NWT, that means the Lotteries Act and its regulations for local games, and the Western Canada Lottery Act for ticket products. No territorial statute yet authorises an online casino Northwest Territories residents can open from home.

The result is a patchwork. A player in Ontario can choose from more than 80 licensed sites, by Barber’s count, while a player in Inuvik has none under local law.

Who carries the legal risk with offshore sites?

Mainly the operator. LiveScore says Canadian law has generally focused on whether the operator is legal rather than penalising individual players. Even so, an online casino Northwest Territories players join offshore gives them none of the safeguards a provincial licence requires.

Provinces push players toward regulated sites because those sites must meet standards for consumer protection, game integrity, responsible gambling tools and dispute resolution, LiveScore notes. Offshore operators set their own standards, and those vary from one licence to the next.

That gap matters most when something goes wrong. A delayed withdrawal, a voided bonus or a closed account all land with the operator’s own support team first, and then with a foreign regulator.

The difference in the NWT is that there is no local regulated alternative to fall back on. Every online casino Northwest Territories residents can reach sits under someone else’s rules.

How has NWT gambling policy changed over time?

Slowly. GambleOnline describes a long period with no territorial online casino, then a federal sports betting change, then MLA debates and a briefing, and this year’s budget for legislative help. The online casino Northwest Territories story is mostly one of non-launch so far.

The pace reflects the territory’s size and its consultation duties. Changes to the Lotteries Act go through Indigenous governments and the Council of Leaders, as Minister McKay pointed out, so no online casino Northwest Territories framework can be rushed.

What is the Council of Leaders?

An intergovernmental forum that brings the territorial government together with Indigenous government leaders to discuss shared priorities. McKay said Lotteries Act changes require its input, so it is a key gate for any online casino Northwest Territories reform.

McKay offered to raise the Lotteries Act as a possible topic, Cabin Radio reports, but he did not promise it a spot on the next agenda. That leaves the timing in the hands of a body with a wide set of priorities.

Indigenous governments in the NWT hold self-government and land claim rights, and gambling revenue touches their communities directly. Testart framed the opportunity as a way to enrich both Indigenous and public governments.

For players, the practical point is simple: no change to the online casino Northwest Territories rules will arrive without this step.

How would a partnership with Ontario work?

Barber told MLAs the territory can partner with Ontario, letting operators already licensed there use geolocation providers to accept players inside the NWT, Cabin Radio reports. That spares the territory from writing every rule alone for an online casino Northwest Territories market.

Barber pitched the idea as a way to reduce the burden of drafting regulations. Ontario already licenses operators through the AGCO and runs the commercial side through iGaming Ontario, so the testing, approvals and compliance checks exist.

The NWT would still set its own terms. Questions include who collects the tax, how revenue is split, whether Indigenous governments share in it and which local protections sit on top of Ontario’s rules.

A partnership also raises a branding question: whether players see a territorial site or an Ontario operator’s site with an NWT approval attached. Either way, geolocation would confirm that each player using an online casino Northwest Territories approval is inside the territory before a bet.

Why did Testart bring GeoComply to the minister?

To make the case for regulated online betting. Testart brought a GeoComply representative to meet McKay and told Cabin Radio that legal sports betting and iGaming offered substantial benefits, including tax revenue and consumer protections. He wants a regulated online casino Northwest Territories players can trust.

His argument centres on redirection. “By directing players to regulated platforms, the Northwest Territories can mitigate risks associated with unregulated sites, which offer no safeguards for consumers or contributions to public funds,” he said.

The meeting took place before Barber’s committee briefing, and Testart later used that briefing to ask about harm-reduction tools. His line of questions shows the online casino Northwest Territories debate is about protection as well as revenue.

GeoComply sells location checks to regulated operators, so it has a commercial interest in new markets. Readers can weigh its pitch with that in mind.

What downsides did MLAs ask about?

Yellowknife Centre MLA Robert Hawkins asked about the downsides. Barber said the most common concerns are that platforms are designed to be addictive and that ads normalise gambling. Those worries apply to any online casino Northwest Territories residents use, regulated or not.

Barber linked the advertising concern to the wider shift toward digital play among younger people. “There’s two sides to everything,” she said, arguing that most criticisms can be addressed better in a regulated market than an unregulated one.

Ontario shows both sides. AGCO rules bar operators from advertising bonuses to the general public, a response to complaints about ad saturation, while its market keeps growing.

For the NWT, the open question is whether a regulated online casino Northwest Territories market would raise overall play or mainly move existing offshore play onto licensed sites.

Where does gambling revenue go in Canada?

Into public budgets. LiveScore says provinces control gambling because they manage its revenue, which often funds health care, infrastructure, community programmes and responsible gambling work. Supporters want an online casino Northwest Territories market to do the same in the North.

Each province sets its own priorities, which is why gambling markets look so different across the country. In the NWT, charitable gaming already sends proceeds to licensed community groups, while lottery revenue supports territorial programmes.

Offshore play sends nothing back. As Testart put it, unregulated sites contribute nothing to public funds, and our rough estimate puts a local online casino Northwest Territories market at about 8 million a year.

How that money would be split, and whether a share goes to problem gambling services, would be set in any new law.

What does “no legal recourse” mean for players?

It means there is no territorial regulator to hear a complaint. Barber used the phrase to describe unregulated play. If an online casino Northwest Territories players use withholds a payout, the only routes are the operator and its foreign licensing authority.

Canadian courts are a distant and costly option against a company based in Malta, Curaçao or elsewhere. In practice, players rely on the licence holder’s complaint process and on the regulator behind it.

That is why the licence matters more than the welcome offer when you compare any online casino Northwest Territories players can join. A strong regulator gives you somewhere to go; a weak one gives you very little.

Keep screenshots, chat logs and emails from the start. Evidence makes any complaint easier to pursue.

How do you complain about an offshore casino?

Start with the casino’s support team in writing, then use its formal complaints process, then escalate to the licensing regulator or its approved dispute service. Keep every message. Those steps apply to any online casino Northwest Territories residents join offshore.

  1. Write to support and ask for a reference number.
  2. Quote the exact term the casino relies on.
  3. Request a written decision through the complaints procedure.
  4. Check the terms for the regulator or dispute body named there.
  5. Submit your evidence and keep copies.

The Malta Gaming Authority and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission both publish complaint routes on their websites. Curaçao oversight has historically been lighter, which is one reason to favour an MGA- or Kahnawake-licensed online casino Northwest Territories players can rely on.

Who is most at risk of problem gambling?

A Statistics Canada study found higher risk among men, people in lower-income households, people who were single, divorced or separated, people who rated their mental health as fair or poor, and people who took part in a wide range of gambling. That matters for any online casino Northwest Territories plan.

Cabin Radio notes the study used data gathered before the pandemic and before single-event sports betting, and it did not include the territories. Its broad patterns still offer a useful reference point.

The risk among Indigenous respondents reached 4.5%, against about 2% overall, according to Cabin Radio’s summary. In a territory where about half the population is Indigenous, that gap carries weight in any online casino Northwest Territories decision.

Online play adds speed and constant access, both of which make limits more important. National figures are collected on our gambling statistics in Canada page.

Which habits signal a gambling problem?

Betting more than you can afford to lose, chasing losses, borrowing or selling things to gamble, and feeling guilty about play. The Problem Gambling Severity Index asks about these signs. Watch for them whenever you use an online casino Northwest Territories players can reach.

  • Needing bigger bets to get the same excitement.
  • Going back another day to win back losses.
  • Borrowing money or selling belongings to gamble.
  • Others criticising your betting.
  • Money problems at home caused by gambling.
  • Stress or health problems linked to play.

Answering yes to any of these is a reason to pause and talk to someone. The NWT Helpline listed above is free and confidential, and it helps whether the play happens at a bingo hall or an online casino Northwest Territories residents use.

What does an hour of play cost on average?

The house edge times your bet times the rounds you play. A 1-unit slot at 96% RTP over 600 spins costs about 24 units an hour on average, by our sums. Speed and edge, not bet size alone, set the cost at any online casino Northwest Territories players use.

Game House edge Rounds per hour (our assumption) Average cost per hour at 1 unit
Slot, 96% RTP 4% 600 24 units
Slot, 94% RTP 6% 600 36 units
European roulette 2.70% 60 1.6 units
American roulette 5.26% 60 3.2 units
Blackjack, basic strategy About 0.5% 70 0.35 units
Baccarat, banker bet 1.06% 70 0.74 units

These are averages over long play. Any single hour can end well ahead or well behind, especially on slots.

The numbers show why slots dominate operator revenue: a small edge applied hundreds of times an hour adds up. A blackjack player making the same 1-unit bets at an online casino Northwest Territories players join loses far less on average.

Why do fast games drain budgets quicker?

Because the edge applies to every round. Doubling the pace doubles the expected hourly loss even at the same bet. Crash games and turbo spins push the rate up, so set session limits before playing them at any online casino Northwest Territories players join.

Take the 96% slot from the table above. At 600 spins an hour it costs about 24 units; with turbo mode at 900 spins, about 36 units; with autoplay and quick spin at 1,200 spins, about 48 units. Nothing about the game changed except the speed.

Crash rounds last seconds, so the round count climbs fast. A player who would never place 1,000 bets at a table can do it in an evening of crash play at an online casino Northwest Territories residents reach.

Slowing down is the cheapest limit there is. Turn off turbo, skip autoplay and take breaks between sessions.

Which casino games carry the lowest house edge?

Blackjack with basic strategy, at about 0.5%, the banker bet in baccarat at 1.06%, and full-pay Jacks or Better video poker at about 0.46%. European roulette’s single zero gives 2.70%. Those games stretch a budget furthest at an online casino Northwest Territories players pick.

Game House edge Note
Jacks or Better video poker (9/6 pay table) About 0.46% Needs optimal holds
Blackjack, basic strategy About 0.5% Table rules move the figure
Baccarat, banker 1.06% After commission
Baccarat, player 1.24% No commission
European roulette 2.70% One zero
American roulette 5.26% Two zeros
Typical online slot 3% to 6% Check the game’s RTP

The figures assume correct play. Blackjack mistakes or a poor video poker pay table raise the edge quickly.

Online lobbies often show both roulette versions side by side, and the single-zero wheel cuts the cost of every bet roughly in half. Our roulette odds page works through each bet, and our video poker page explains pay tables.

When does a wagering requirement break even?

By the simple sum, wagering costs the multiple times the house edge, so on a 96% slot a bonus is used up beyond 25x. Real play stops at zero, which caps the loss at your deposit. Check both points at any online casino Northwest Territories players join.

Wagering on a 100 bonus Total bets Expected cost at 96% RTP Simple-sum value left
10x 1,000 40 60
20x 2,000 80 20
25x 2,500 100 0
30x 3,000 120 None
40x 4,000 160 None

The simple sum overstates the damage of heavy wagering. Busting early ends play, so the most you lose is your own deposit, and a lucky run can still clear a heavy requirement. Treat the table as a ceiling on cost, not a forecast.

Games that count less toward wagering make the maths worse. If table games count 10%, clearing 30x on blackjack takes ten times the bets. Our casino wagering requirements page covers contribution rates, and the same rules apply at an online casino Northwest Territories players use.

How do currency costs affect NWT players?

Sites that only take US dollars or euros add a conversion on every deposit and withdrawal. Canadian card issuers commonly add a foreign transaction fee of about 2.5%. Pick an online casino Northwest Territories players can fund in Canadian dollars to avoid that loss.

A round trip hurts twice. Converting 500 out and back at 2.5% each way costs about 25, by our sums, before a single bet. That is far more than the expected loss on an hour of 1-unit blackjack.

Oddschecker lists Canadian dollar support among its checks for NWT sites. Look for CAD in the cashier of any online casino Northwest Territories players compare, not only on the home page.

Crypto avoids card fees but adds its own exchange spreads and price swings between deposit and withdrawal.

Does internet access limit online play in the NWT?

In remote communities it can. PACICC notes the territories’ options are limited but may change as internet infrastructure improves. Live dealer streams need a steady connection, so access shapes which online casino Northwest Territories games work well locally.

The Mackenzie Valley Fibre Link carries fibre up the valley to Inuvik, while other communities depend on satellite service. Satellite links add delay, which matters more for live tables than for slots.

RNG slots and table games load once and then send small amounts of data per round. Live dealer games stream video for the whole session, so they suffer first when an online casino Northwest Territories connection is weak.

On a weak connection, choose RNG games and lower the video quality in the live lobby settings.

What happens if your connection drops mid-game?

At licensed sites, the result of a spin or hand is set on the server, so it stands even if your screen freezes. Reopen the game or check your history. Ask support if an online casino Northwest Territories players use shows no record.

Slot rounds usually complete automatically, and the win is credited when you reconnect. Table games with decisions, such as blackjack, often resume where you left off.

Live dealer tables follow the studio’s own rules. A disconnection can leave a bet in play, settled by the table’s default action, so read the game rules before playing on a shaky link.

Screenshots of the round ID help if you raise a dispute with an online casino Northwest Territories players join later.

How do progressive jackpots work offshore?

A small slice of each bet feeds a prize pool, often shared across sites running the same game, until one spin wins it. The pooled prize can grow large, but the odds stay long at any online casino Northwest Territories players join.

The jackpot contribution comes out of the game’s RTP, so the base game pays back less than a comparable non-progressive slot. A large part of the return sits in a prize that very rarely lands.

Network jackpots link players across operators and countries, which is how they reach headline sizes. Single-site jackpots grow more slowly but drop more often.

Check whether a qualifying bet size applies. Certain games only pay the top prize on the maximum bet, a detail buried in the rules at more than one online casino Northwest Territories players use.

Can you play online bingo from the NWT?

Yes, at offshore sites. Bojoko lists online bingo among the games NWT players find, though the territory runs no online bingo of its own. For a bingo-loving North, it is a familiar game inside an online casino Northwest Territories players reach.

Online bingo rooms use 75-ball or 90-ball formats, with automatic daubing and chat. Hall bingo in the NWT raises money for local groups; offshore bingo profits go to the operator.

Prize pools vary by room. Read the room rules for how prizes split when two players complete a card on the same call. Our online keno, bingo and scratch cards page compares the formats.

Supporting the local hall keeps the money in the community, which is the point Testart made about northern gaming culture, and something no online casino Northwest Territories players use offshore can match.

Which governments share the Western Canada Lottery?

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation serves Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba as members, with Yukon, the NWT and Nunavut as associate members. It runs lottery games, not casinos, so it does not supply an online casino Northwest Territories players can join.

National draws such as Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max sit alongside regional games in its range.

Sports Select, which Bojoko names as the territory’s only official online gambling option, belongs to the same lottery family and covers sports only.

That leaves casino games as the one category with no official territorial outlet, and the main gap an online casino Northwest Territories law would fill.

What makes a good session plan?

A fixed budget, a time limit, a stop-loss and a point at which you bank winnings, all decided before you log in. Writing them down makes them harder to break. Apply that plan at any online casino Northwest Territories players open.

Use the cost table to size the budget. Two hours of 1-unit slot play at 96% RTP costs about 48 units on average, so a 100-unit budget leaves room for normal swings without chasing.

Set a banking rule too. One simple version: withdraw half of any balance above your starting amount at the end of each session.

End the session when the time or the money runs out, whichever comes first. Our professional gambler in Canada page explains why even skilled players treat bankroll rules as fixed, and the same discipline suits any online casino Northwest Territories player.

How can you keep records of your play?

Download your account history every month and match it against bank statements. Records show your real net result, support complaints and help if your gambling ever becomes a business. They are worth keeping at any online casino Northwest Territories players use.

Players tend to remember wins and forget losses. A simple monthly total of deposits minus withdrawals removes the guesswork.

Casino.ca notes recreational winnings are not taxed but professional gambling can be. Records help an accountant judge which side of that line you fall on.

Store the files outside the casino account, since access can end if a site closes or blocks your region.

What tax revenue would a regulated NWT market raise?

Modest sums. Ontario operators pay 20% of their gaming revenue to the province. Applied to our 8 million yearly estimate, that is about 1.6 million a year, by our sums. An online casino Northwest Territories market would add a useful but small line to the budget.

NWT spend per person vs Ontario Yearly market At a 20% revenue share
50% About 4.1 million About 0.8 million
75% About 6.1 million About 1.2 million
100% About 8.2 million About 1.6 million
125% About 10.2 million About 2.0 million

The base case uses about 204 per person a year, four quarters of Ontario’s 51, across just over 40,000 residents. The other rows show how far the result moves if northerners spend less or more.

Slower internet in smaller communities pulls spending down; long winters and the lack of any land casino push it up. Our range covers both, but no online casino Northwest Territories forecast can be firm until real data exists.

How do regulated sites spot problem play?

With analytics that flag risky patterns, then messages, limits or contact from staff. Barber told MLAs regulation brings “greater oversight and ability to use different analytics”. Offshore, no territorial rule makes an online casino Northwest Territories players use do the same.

Typical markers include rapid deposits after losses, cancelled withdrawals, rising stakes and long late-night sessions. A regulated operator is expected to act on them.

“If there is an indication of problem gambling, there is often an opportunity to educate or for the individual to put limits on themselves, whereas in the unregulated market, there really is nothing similar,” Barber said.

Her point was that tools only work alongside education. Players at any online casino Northwest Territories residents reach today can still switch on the same limits themselves, without waiting for a rule to require them.

How do charity casino hours compare with online access?

The regulations cap a group at three casino days every six months. Even at 12 hours a day, that is 72 hours a year, against 8,760 hours of round-the-clock online access, by our sums. That gap explains why an online casino Northwest Territories players reach feels so different.

Format Hours open per year
Charity casino, six days at 12 hours 72
Online casino, always open 8,760
Ratio About 120 to 1

The charity rule was written for occasional fundraising nights, with players gathered in one room and organisers watching the floor. Online play has no closing time and no room to leave.

That is the core of the harm debate. The same games become a different product when access never stops, which is why limits matter more at an online casino Northwest Territories residents can open at any hour.

What does a Problem Gambling Severity Index score mean?

The index asks nine questions, each scored 0 to 3, for a total of 0 to 27. A score of 0 means no problem, 1 to 2 low risk, 3 to 7 moderate risk and 8 or more problem gambling. Try it before using any online casino Northwest Territories players join.

Score Category
0 Non-problem gambling
1 to 2 Low risk
3 to 7 Moderate risk
8 to 27 Problem gambling

Each answer runs from never (0) through sometimes and most of the time to almost always (3), based on the past 12 months.

The Statistics Canada figures Cabin Radio cited, about 2% at moderate-to-severe risk, come from this kind of scoring. A score of 3 or more is a sign to set firm limits or step away from any online casino Northwest Territories site.

What do you ask support before depositing?

Ask about Canadian dollar accounts, withdrawal methods and times, weekly withdrawal caps, the documents needed for verification and how to decline a bonus. Clear, fast answers are a good sign at any online casino Northwest Territories players test.

  1. Can I hold my balance in Canadian dollars?
  2. Which methods pay out to a Canadian bank, and how long do they take?
  3. Is there a weekly or monthly withdrawal cap?
  4. Which documents do you need, and when?
  5. Can I opt out of the welcome bonus?
  6. Do you accept players from the Northwest Territories?

Save the chat transcript. If the answers later turn out to be wrong, the record supports a complaint.

Vague or scripted replies to direct questions are a warning. A well-run online casino Northwest Territories players can trust answers in plain terms.

What does Barber’s Singapore example show?

That a jurisdiction can welcome visitors while restricting residents. Barber cited Singapore’s limits on residents who want to gamble online. Applied in the North, an online casino Northwest Territories model would let tourists play while geolocation and rules keep locals out or capped.

Singapore applies the same idea on land. Its two resort casinos charge citizens and permanent residents an entry levy, while foreign visitors enter free, a policy aimed at tourism revenue without encouraging local play.

For the NWT, the tourism case rests on aurora season, fishing lodges and business travel to Yellowknife. Barber pointed to a 15% rise in gaming-related tourism in Ontario.

A visitor-only model raises its own questions. Residents would see a product they cannot use, and offshore sites would still accept them. Any online casino Northwest Territories rule built this way would depend on strong enforcement.

It remains one idea among those MLAs heard, not a policy proposal.

How do you compare a bonus with cashback?

Look at certainty as well as size. A 100 bonus at 35x wagering on a 96% slot carries a simple-sum cost of 140, so most balances bust before wagering ends. Cashback of 10% with no wagering pays real money every time. Weigh both at any online casino Northwest Territories players join.

Offer How it pays
100 bonus, 10x wagering Often survives wagering, with most of its value kept
100 bonus, 35x wagering Usually busts first, with occasional large cash-outs
10% cashback on 200 net losses, no wagering 20, paid every time
10% cashback on 200 net losses, 1x wagering About 19

The big bonus can still be worth more on average, because the rare survivors cash out large sums and the most you risk is the deposit. Cashback suits steady play, since it pays the same way week after week, which is the case GambleOnline makes for cashback and reloads at an online casino Northwest Territories players use for regular play.

Cashback only pays when you lose, so it softens bad sessions rather than adding value to good ones. Read whether it is paid as cash or as bonus funds with fresh wagering.

What is the bottom line for NWT players?

There is no licensed online casino in the territory today, so play offshore only at well-licensed sites, use Interac or another method that works for withdrawals, set limits and keep the NWT Helpline number handy. The online casino Northwest Territories story is still being written.

Local bingo and lottery remain the legal home games.

Watch for MACA’s next steps on legislation.

Keep every bet within money you can spare.
