What is buffalo blitz live?
Buffalo blitz live is a slot played live. Playtech calls Live Slots a concept that turns slot play into a collective experience, launched with Buffalo Blitz, where all participating players play a single game together while a host leads the show.
Live Casino Comparer calls it a presenter-led live slots game in which an unlimited number of players play at the same time, as a community.
AboutSlots describes it as the live game version of Playtech’s Buffalo Blitz slot series.
Who makes buffalo blitz live?
Playtech. Playtech announced Live Slots as an industry-first live casino variant, launching with the popular Buffalo Blitz, alongside Quantum Blackjack.
Kevin Kilminster, then Playtech’s head of innovation for live casino, called Live Slots a genuinely new concept that recreates the feeling of playing alongside others in a land-based casino.
Golfnews says buffalo blitz live was developed by Playtech Live, Playtech’s live casino arm.
What is the Buffalo Blitz slot?
The game it is built on. Per our Playtech slots page, Buffalo Blitz is a six-reel, four-row slot with 4,096 ways, built on North American plains imagery, that became one of the most played Playtech slots and spawned a sequel and a live version.
Racing Post lists the original slot’s RTP at 96.49%.
Our page on Playtech slots covers Buffalo Blitz and Playtech’s other slot families.
Is it a game show or a slot?
Both. Live Casino Comparer calls Live Slots a new genre of live casino game, Playtech says it is designed to create a game show feel, and AboutSlots calls it Playtech’s first live slot, with the reels in the middle of a game show set.
The wins come from slot reels, not from a wheel or cards.
The show comes from the host, the studio and the shared spins of buffalo blitz live.
What are community spins?
One spin for everyone. Playtech says buffalo blitz live is the first live game with community spins, where all participating players play a single game together, and Genting says the outcome is shared across all players, with payouts set by each player’s own wager.
Mega Casino puts it the same way: every spin yields the same result for all players, but payouts differ by stake.
A studio screen in Playtech’s own footage shows how many players won the last winning spin, such as 21.
Are the reels physical?
No. Live Casino Comparer describes a central online slot game played by an unlimited number of players at once, and says the host takes no part in the result beyond pressing a manual spin button on request.
The studio, host and button are live. The reels are the Buffalo Blitz slot shown on screen.
That makes buffalo blitz live different from live games that use a physical wheel or dice.
How does a round of buffalo blitz live work?
Set your spins, then watch. Playtech says players choose an overall limit, a number of spins and a bet per spin, and the game then continues automatically, with a spin every few seconds.
- Choose the stake per spin.
- Choose the number of spins and any win or loss limits.
- Start Autoplay to opt in to the community spins.
- Each spin pays wins on your stake.
- Three or more scatters start free games for players in that spin.
- Play stops when your spins or limits run out.
Live Casino Comparer says that once your money or spins run out, you are no longer taking part in buffalo blitz live.
How long is there between spins?
About seven seconds. Golfnews says players have around seven seconds between spins to place bets on the next one, and Playtech says the game runs automatically with spins every few seconds.
Golfnews adds that the play is continuous, and players opt in to take part.
That pace means buffalo blitz live moves far faster than a live table game, closer to a slot on autoplay.
What does the host do?
Talks, and sometimes spins. Live Casino Comparer says the host plays no part in the game except on rare occasions when they press a manual spin button at players’ request in the chat.
Mega Casino says you can ask the host for manual spins, and she presses the large red button for you; it calls this more of a gimmick than a practical feature.
Golfnews says the host walks players through the game with constant commentary in buffalo blitz live.
What does the studio look like?
The slot’s world on a stage. Golfnews says the back wall shows the original game’s sunset over a rocky desert, with large columns on either side, a black studio floor and a small podium with a large red button.
Playtech’s footage shows the reel grid on a big screen, lit columns and the host beside the red button.
Mega Casino describes a well-dressed host beside the six reels, with player controls at the bottom of the screen in buffalo blitz live.
How many reels and rows are there?
Six reels and four rows, for 4,096 ways. AboutSlots, BoyleSports and Playtech’s footage all show six reels, and AboutSlots gives four rows; 4 to the power of 6 is 4,096.
Golfnews says three rows, which cannot give 4,096 ways: six reels of three rows give 729.
This page follows AboutSlots, BoyleSports and the footage for buffalo blitz live.
How do wins form?
Left to right on adjacent reels. AboutSlots says a win needs three or more of the same symbol on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel, with the higher-paying symbols also paying for two.
With 4,096 ways, a symbol on any row of each reel counts, so there are no fixed paylines.
Each matching combination across the reels pays separately in buffalo blitz live.
How do 4,096 ways work?
Every row counts on every reel. With four rows on each of six reels, a symbol can connect through any row of each reel in turn, so a six-reel win can follow 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 = 4,096 paths.
A three-reel win can follow 4 x 4 x 4 = 64 paths, and each path with a match pays.
That is why two buffalo in the same column double a win in buffalo blitz live, and a full stack of four multiplies it by four.
What do the symbols pay?
AboutSlots lists 9, 10, J, Q, K and A as the lower-paying symbols, at 2.5x to 3.75x for six of a kind, and moose, bear, cougar, raccoon and buffalo as the higher-paying symbols, at 5x to 7.5x for six.
| Symbols | Six of a kind pays |
|---|---|
| 9, 10, J, Q, K, A | 2.5x to 3.75x |
| Moose, bear, cougar, raccoon, buffalo | 5x to 7.5x |
| Two of a higher-paying symbol | 0.4x to 1x |
The pays are per way, so a stacked symbol across rows multiplies the win. The buffalo is the top symbol in buffalo blitz live.
What does the wild do?
It substitutes, and in free games it multiplies. AboutSlots says the wild is a blue diamond that lands only on reels 2 to 6 and substitutes for every symbol except the scatter.
Genting agrees that the wild can appear on all reels except the first.
During free games, the diamond wild carries a 2x, 3x or 5x multiplier on any win it is part of in buffalo blitz live, per AboutSlots and Golfnews.
How are free games triggered?
By three or more scatters. AboutSlots, Golfnews and Mega Casino say three, four, five or six scatters anywhere on the reels award 8, 15, 25 or 100 free games.
| Scatters | Free games |
|---|---|
| 3 | 8 |
| 4 | 15 |
| 5 | 25 |
| 6 | 100 |
Playtech says Live Slots was the first live game to support free spins bonusing, and buffalo blitz live was its launch title.
Can free games retrigger?
Yes. AboutSlots says two to six scatters during free games add 5, 8, 15, 25 or 100 more, and Mega Casino says there is no cap on the number of retriggers.
| Scatters during free games | Extra free games |
|---|---|
| 2 | 5 |
| 3 | 8 |
| 4 | 15 |
| 5 | 25 |
| 6 | 100 |
Live Casino Comparer also says retriggers can come from two symbols during free spins in buffalo blitz live.
What happens to players who did not opt in?
They wait. Golfnews says players in a spin that lands three or more scatters take part in the free games, while those who did not opt in find the spin button locked until the bonus round ends.
That follows from the community format: everyone watches the same free games.
Only players with a stake in the triggering spin of buffalo blitz live collect from the free games.
What does a wild multiplier do to a win?
It multiplies that win. AboutSlots says the free-game wild’s 2x, 3x or 5x applies to every winning combination it is part of, so a six-buffalo way paying 7.5x becomes 37.5x with a 5x wild.
The same way with a 2x wild pays 15x, and with a 3x wild, 22.5x.
Across 4,096 ways, a single wild can join several winning ways at once in buffalo blitz live.
What does six scatters bring?
100 free games. AboutSlots, Golfnews and Mega Casino all say six scatters award 100 free games, and Genting says extra scatters in the bonus can add up to 100 more.
With retriggers uncapped, per Mega Casino, a bonus can run well beyond its first count.
Each of those free games uses the triggering spin’s stake, so a large bonus in buffalo blitz live pays in proportion to that stake.
What do free games usually pay?
Live Casino Comparer says most bonus rounds are likely to deliver 10x to 30x, with bigger pays possible, and that free spins do not come often.
The wild multipliers are where free games grow: a 5x wild on a win multiplies it five times.
Playtech’s channel shows buffalo blitz live wins of 2,700x and 3,651x in its big-win videos.
What is the top win?
3,651x. AboutSlots gives a maximum win of 3,651x the bet, and Playtech’s channel shows a 3,651x win in the game.
Mega Casino says a single spin can still win up to 250,000, a cash cap that applies above a certain stake.
At 3,651x, a $0.40 spin would return $1,460.40, and the 250,000 cap would come into play only above a stake of about $68 a spin in buffalo blitz live.
What is the RTP of buffalo blitz live?
95.96%. BoyleSports and AboutSlots both list 95.96%, and Genting gives a range of 95.96% to 98%, which no other source supports at the top end.
At 95.96%, the house edge is 4.04%, or $4.04 per $100 staked over time.
AboutSlots calls the RTP of buffalo blitz live slightly below average for a slot.
How does it compare with the original slot’s RTP?
Slightly lower. Racing Post lists the Buffalo Blitz slot at 96.49%, against 95.96% for the live version, a gap of 0.53 points.
On $1,000 of spins, that is about $5.30 more in expected cost for the live game.
The difference pays for the studio, host and community features that the original slot does not have. A player who wants the slot alone gets the better return from the original; a player who wants the show pays about half a point more for it.
What are the stakes?
They vary by casino. Live Casino Comparer says the minimum was 40 pence a spin when it played, Mega Casino says bets typically start at 0.20 a spin, and Mega Casino’s own FAQ gives 1 to 5,000.
Mega Casino says options range slightly by casino.
The stake selector in buffalo blitz live shows the limits that apply at your casino.
What does 100 spins cost?
About $1.62 at $0.40 a spin. One hundred spins stake $40, and at the 95.96% RTP, the 4.04% edge costs $1.62 on average, with the actual result swinging well above or below that.
At $2 a spin, 100 spins stake $200 and cost about $8.08.
If spins came every 10 seconds, an hour of buffalo blitz live would hold 360 spins, or $144 staked at $0.40, costing about $5.82.
What does each stake cost per 100 spins?
4.04% of the total staked. At the 95.96% RTP, 100 spins cost about $0.81 at $0.20 a spin, $1.62 at $0.40, $4.04 at $1, $8.08 at $2 and $20.20 at $5, on average.
| Stake per spin | Staked over 100 spins | Expected cost |
|---|---|---|
| $0.20 | $20 | $0.81 |
| $0.40 | $40 | $1.62 |
| $1 | $100 | $4.04 |
| $2 | $200 | $8.08 |
| $5 | $500 | $20.20 |
Real sessions of buffalo blitz live swing far from these averages, since free games and wild multipliers bunch the wins.
How do you budget a session?
Multiply stake by spins. Since buffalo blitz live asks for a stake per spin and a number of spins up front, the most a session can cost before any wins is the two multiplied: 250 spins at $0.40 is $100.
The average loss on that session is about $4.04, at the 4.04% edge.
Adding a loss limit below the full amount, as Live Casino Comparer and AboutSlots describe, caps the session sooner if the reels run cold.
How volatile is buffalo blitz live?
Sources disagree. Live Casino Comparer calls it quite volatile, with few small wins and long runs without much before a decent win, while Mega Casino says the volatility was changed from high to low or medium for the live format.
Mega Casino’s reasoning is that a very volatile game would make players wait too long for the bonus.
Live Casino Comparer’s first-hand play described the high end. Setting a win and a loss limit before starting covers both cases.
What limits can you set?
Spins, stake, and win and loss limits. Playtech says players choose an overall limit, a number of spins and a bet per spin, and Live Casino Comparer and AboutSlots add win and loss limits before Autoplay starts.
Once a limit is hit, your play stops while the community game carries on.
That makes buffalo blitz live one of the easier live games to budget: every spin is the same fixed stake.
Is there a chat?
Yes, and it is central. Live Casino Comparer says the game is structured as a community, with players encouraged to chat while the reels spin, and compares it to watching slot streams on Twitch.
It says the presenters have the hard job of keeping an interesting chat going.
Mega Casino says chatting with the host or other players is optional, but it adds interest to buffalo blitz live.
Can you play on mobile?
Yes. Golfnews says the game runs on smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktops thanks to HTML5, and Genting lists mobile, tablet and PC on Android, iOS and Windows.
AboutSlots also says it plays on all mobile devices, desktops and notepads.
Autoplay suits a phone well: buffalo blitz live keeps spinning without a tap each time.
How does it differ from the Buffalo Blitz slot?
Shared spins and a host. Genting says the original slot’s results are personal, while in buffalo blitz live the outcome is shared across all players, with a real-time host and community chat on top.
Mega Casino says the features and gameplay are otherwise identical to the original, apart from the chat.
Golfnews says the main difference is that the play is continuous and players opt in.
How does it compare with Crazy Pachinko?
AboutSlots names Crazy Pachinko as a stronger slot-plus-bonus live game. It says buffalo blitz live is too simple for its taste and will struggle against slot and bonus game releases such as Evolution’s Crazy Pachinko.
Per our page, Crazy Pachinko has players spin a five-reel slot to collect scatters before a host drops a puck down a Pachinko wall, while buffalo blitz live stays a straight slot with free games.
Our Crazy Pachinko live page covers Evolution’s game.
Who was it built for?
Social slot players. Kilminster said live play streaming on social media showed player demand for an interactive feel, and that Live Slots recreates the experience of playing alongside others in a land-based casino.
Playtech also pitched it as a cross-sell between slots and live casino for operators.
Genting calls buffalo blitz live a pioneering live-slot hybrid for players who want more interaction in their slot sessions.
Can you join partway through a bonus?
No. Golfnews says that if you had not opted in to the spin that triggered the free games, the spin button stays locked until the bonus round is complete.
Once the bonus ends, you can join the next community spin. Keeping Autoplay running is the only way to be sure of a place in the next bonus.
So the free games in buffalo blitz live pay only those who staked the triggering spin.
What sources disagree on the game?
Rows, volatility and RTP. Golfnews gives three rows against four from AboutSlots and the footage, Live Casino Comparer and Mega Casino disagree on volatility, and Genting’s 98% top RTP is not backed by the 95.96% from BoyleSports and AboutSlots.
Stakes differ too: 40 pence, 0.20 and 1 are all given as the minimum.
This page follows the figures that two or more sources agree on for buffalo blitz live.
What do reviewers think?
Mixed. Golfnews calls it one of the most fascinating live games on the market and Genting calls it pioneering, while AboutSlots finds it too basic and Live Casino Comparer says it is not a game for its reviewer.
Live Casino Comparer expects Live Slots to appeal to a small cross-section of players and suggests Playtech needs a wider selection of slots.
AboutSlots says the social side is the main selling point of buffalo blitz live.
