How does a round work?
In six steps, with the Banker’s 9 already on the table. Livedealer.org describes the deal as two cards to the Player followed by one more card to the Banker.
- Bet on Player, Banker or Tie, plus Player Pair or Banker Pair if wanted.
- The Banker’s fixed 9 stays in place at the Banker position.
- The dealer deals two cards to the Player, then one card to the Banker.
- A two-card total of 8 or 9 on either side is a natural, and no more cards are drawn.

Why does the 9 favour the Banker?
Because a 0-value card keeps it on 9. Livedealer.org notes that almost a third of the shoe is 10s, Jacks, Queens and Kings, so the Banker often finishes on a natural 9 after its second card.
The count bears that out. In the six decks of an always 9 baccarat live shoe, 96 of the 312 cards are worth 0, or 30.77%. Add the 24 nines, which turn 9 plus 9 into a natural 8, and 38.46% of the Banker’s second cards give it a natural.
